An incomplete copper alloy object, possibly a crossbow bolt (quarrel) dating to the medieval period (c.AD 1300-1600). The object consists of a socket and a solid head. The socket is round and conical in shape, it has an incomplete circular mouth. At the the tapered end of the socket is the solid bolt head which is square in section and tapers to a point. The object has a smooth light brown patina with pitting on the surface. Cast copper alloy cross bow bolt. Medieval to Post-Medieval date. 40mm long. The base is hollow and six sided, measuring 8mm in diameter. The bolt widens to 9mm in diameter before tapering to a point. A casting seam is visible along one side. Two holes, 1.5mm in diameter, are placed opposite each other at the base of the bolt. These holes allow the bolt to be fixed onto a wooden shaft. Similar can be seen on this database at LON-904322.
