The handle is twisted for approximately half its length from the break towards the terminal. A fragment of a copper alloy cosmetic or toiletry spoon of Roman date (c. AD 43 - 410). The object comprises of the damaged, very shallow bowl and the stub of a rectangular sectioned stem set at 90 degrees to the bowl. Only 6 mm of the stem remains. A complete copper-alloy cosmetic or toiletry spoon of uncertain date, 75.5mm in length and made from a twisted strip of metal, one side of which has three ridges running along it, the other being curved. This provides a decorative effect to the twisted handle. At one end there is a flat terminal, possibly an old break, and the other end has a pointed oval scoop, 9mm wide and 19mm in length. Fragment probably of a Roman copper alloy cosmetic spoon-probe, a short length of oval-sectioned shank with a non-recent break and an oval, gently dished spoon bowl. Cf. Crummy 1983, 60-1, nos. 1926-1932. On the reverse of the bowl a very low moulding, 4.5mm long and wide with a rounded terminal, continues the line of the shank. Overall length 31mm. Bowl 22 x 11.5mm. Incomplete Roman copper alloy cosmetic spoon with a small circular scoop and a leaf-shaped (badly bent) stem. The proximal end, which probably included a suspension loop, is missing due to an ancient break. On one face of the stem, opposite that on which the scoop is dished, finely engraved lines follow the edges and near the break there is a punched ring-and-dot. The form is close to that of NMS-455F25, a larger and complete example recovered from the same field. Extant straightened length 40mm. Width 5mm. Mid 1st - mid 2nd century.

Bowl and a short length of the stem of a copper-alloy cosmetic spoon of unknown date. The bowl is sub-ovoid and fairly shallow. The stem is oval in cross-section and expands in thickness from the junction with the bowl to the break (a distance of about twelve millimetres) eventually becoming thicker than it is wide. The break is not recent. The bowl is angled downwards at an angle of approximately thirty degrees when the spoon is held horizontally. Length: 27.7mm. Width (bowl): 11.5mm (stem at break). 2.5mm. An incomplete copper-alloy cosmetic scoop or spoon, dating from the post-Medieval period (c.1500-1700). The object comprises a rod, the top of which has been flattened and pierced to create a now-broken pivot point. The bottom of the rod has been formed into an oval scoop or spoon. The piece is heavily corroded and is bent approximately 25mm below the top. at a 70 degree angle. It is a reddish brown in colour. PAS record SF7885 is a close parallel.
