An incomplete post medieval(AD1600-1850), copper alloy toy cannon.This toy cannon is of typical form. The cascabel has a globular knob which has an indented end, and then expands into the first reinforce, there is a second, smaller reinforce 6.9mm past this. The touch hole is placed centrally between the first and second reinforce. The foreshortened trunnions are positioned 30mm from the breech end and project evenly to either side. An incomplete cast copper-alloy toy cannon of Post-Medieval to Modern date. Only the closed end survives, the remainder now missing due to old breaks. It has a small circular touch hole positioned between two circumferential bands, and the closed end itself has a projecting cylindrical knop. The barrel terminates in old breaks just past the circumferential bands. It measures 15.76mm in length, 7.12mm in maximum diameter, and weighs 2.46g. Post-medieval carronade dating to the 1800's. Carronades generally had about sixteen components and there was a loss of projectile power due to the windage gap. The breech bolt, vent hole, barrel and muzzle are intact.The carronade gained the nickname "the smasher" because it created large wooden splinters when landing on an enemy vessel and used gunpowder and chemicals and were smoothbored. Incomplete cast copper alloy toy cannon, with a ribbed and bored barrel, two side bars or 'trunnions' and a touch hole at the closed knopped end. The bore hole is 5 mm in diameter and the touch hole is 3 mm in diameter. The trunnions would have been used to mount the cannon onto a copper alloy carriage. There is written evidence (Read, 1988, p.206) that the copper alloy examples of toy cannons were actually fired, but there is no suggestion of that in this case. Post medieval copper alloy toy cannon, measuring 50.5mm in length. The width across the trunnions is 20.4mm and the bore diameter is 4.4mm. The length of the bore is 25mm. The object is cast in one piece with a thickened base ring and incised cylindrical cascabel button. The gun tapers slightly towards the muzzle, which is reinforced with a flaring flange around the bore. The trunnions are rather flat in section, and probably oval. The cannon weighs 13.27g. Copper alloy miniature cannon. The cannon is 50mm in length and has an external mouth diameter of 9mm. The butt of the cannon has a small nozzle with a damaged central hole. Half way down the the cannon is a double band on either side of which is a short lug. There are two casting seams running the length of the cannon. Cannons such as these are often classed as childs toys, however many of them were working models.
