A complete and very worn six denier piece of Louis XIV of France and dated 1711 on coin. Obverse: [LOVIS XIII R]OY DE FRANCE ET DE NAV]; Three pairs of opposing letter L forming an equilateral triangle, each pair topped by a crown, lis at each corner of the triangle, illegible mintmark at centre. Reverse: SIX DENIERS [DE FRANCE] 1711; Cross 'anillee fleurdelisee' with lis at each arm, pellet at centre. Diameter: 25.0mm; Weight: 5.27g. DA=12:3.

Copper alloy six deniers piece or dardenne of Louis XIV of France (1661-1715), minted at La Rochelle, a seaport on the Bay of Biscay in western France, between 1710-1712, mis-struck so that is it now off-centre. This type was designed to consume locally mined copper along with scrap bronze and brass from cannons from the naval arsenals in Toulon and Marseilles to pay off soldiers serving there.
