A silver Roman Republican denarius of Mark Antony, dating to 32-31 BC (Reece Period 1) and struck by a travelling mint. The reverse depicts a legionary eagle between two standards and the legend LEG XI. Only the bottom part of the right standard is visible. To the obverse is a galley right with the legend ANT AVG above and III.VIR.R.P C below. The coin measures 16.74mm diameter, 1.9mm thick and weighs 3.7 grams. These coins were struck by Mark Antony for the use of his fleet and legions when he was preparing for the struggle with Octavius.

A complete silver-plated contemporary copy of a denarius struck for C Vibius Varus, dating to exactly 42 BC (Reece Period 1), Mint of Rome. Obvwerse: Head of Bacchus (Liber) right, wearing ivy-wreath. Reverse: VARVS, Panther leaping left towards altar on top of which is a mask and against which a thrysus is leaning. In ex; C VIBIVS. RRC p. 508, cf. no. 494/36, Syndenham 1138. The coin is preserved in good condition, but the copper-alloy core is erupting through the silver plating in places, especially on the obverse face.

These coins were struck by Mark Antony for the use of his fleet and legions when he was preparing for the struggle with Octavius, which culminated in the Battle of Actium on the 2nd of September, 31 BC (Grueber, 1970, 526)
