A complete cast copper alloy Roman votive axehead. The axehead is sub-rectangular in plan. In profile, it is wedge-shaped, with the 'cutting end' being 0.80mm thick at the edge. The opposite (handle) end has a thickness of 3.56mm at the edge and is truncated by a flat, sub-rectangular face featuring an oval depression at its centre. The thicker end also has a transverse circular perforation all the way through, which sits near the top edge rather than centrally. The whole surface is covered by a shiny, compact dark green-grey patina, but features shallow scratches throughout. …

A bent fragment of a Roman copper alloy bracelet or armlet, 4mm wide with a flat cross section. The exterior is divided into panels by deeply incised transverse lines, each panel with an oblique line running across it diagonally with a pair of offset notches, one to each side. The angle of the diagonals alternates creating a zig-zag effect. The bracelet appears to have been intentionally cut to respect the edges of the panels at either end and has been bent around, possibly for re-use as a finger ring. There are traces of a white metal coating.

A fragment of a copper alloy Roman finger ring, comprising a raised oval bezel, 8.2mm long and 3.3mm high, with a deep setting for a now lost stone or intaglio. The bezel rises from the line of the hoop which has a flat cross section and triangular shoulders which are waisted at the junction to the bezel and which taper into the hoop. The shoulders are decorated with transverse ridges. Cf. Guiraud's (1989) Type 3 (later 2nd to later 3rd century AD) or Henig's (2007, 13) Type VIII (3rd century AD).

The front of the brooch is decorated with a five pointed star pattern formed by double-ridged concave arcs enclosed by an engraved concentric line around a small central boss. There is no trace of gilding. The reverse has an in-line hinge lug and catchplate. There is extensive deposition of iron corrosion products around the hinge lug from a now lost iron spring and pin.

The buckle comprises a heavily arched frame, drilled spindle, chape, and pin. The frame is D-shaped in cross section, and swells along its horizontal and vertical sides, tapering to narrowed corners. The chape frame is sub-oval and has a single internal spike. It has two hollow lugs that accommodate an iron spindle. Between the lugs a copper-alloy pin is secured by the spindle. An incomplete Roman copper alloy Polden Hill brooch dating to AD 75-175.  Mackreth's CD PH 5.b.1. The brooch is incomplete and is missing the lower part of the bow, the pin and one end of the wings.  The wings encase the spring mechanism and have capped ends with two mouldings at each end (one wing missing).  There is then a short undecorated section before vertical ribs from the top of the wings to part way down the bow which rises up between the ribs and has a central raised rib down the bow with horizontal slashes across it.  See Mackreth …

An incomplete and slightly unusual copper alloy Roman Colchester Polden Hill brooch of Mackreth 2011, CD PH 9.d. Plate 54 no. 1649, dating to AD 50-70. Most of the bow is missing. The head of the brooch survives. An incomplete Middle Iron Age copper alloy brooch of La Tène I and of Hull & Hawkes (1987: 95-106) type 1Ba, dating to the 4th or 3rd century BC. The one-piece brooch is missing both its spring and its pin. The arched bow is D-shaped in section, being flat on the back and convex on the front. An incomplete copper alloy finger ring of probable Roman date, with an oval setting (7mm long) in the bezel for a now missing gem or intaglio. The hoop had an internal diameter of c.17.5mm with a plano-convex cross section. The bezel is in the line of the hoop, with tapering shoulders which merge seamlessly with the hoop and are undecorated. The form is broadly compatible with Guiraud Type 2a and most likely dates to the 1st - early 3rd century AD.
