A near complete cast copper alloy casket key of medieval date (c.AD 1150 – 1450). The bow is of simple circular form, with a circular perforation, and a flattened oval sectioned stem with a projecting stem tip. The flat bit projects at 90 degrees to the stem and has a single rear cleft, with an abraded outer and lower edge. The metal has a mid green patina and is worn. Cf. The brooch is complete apart from the corroded, largely absent spring, pin, and axis bar. The head of the brooch has two rectangular wings 23.4mm wide, and 7.2mm high, with a curved section with a concave reverse to hold the spring.
