A very worn copper-alloy Post-Medieval British coin weight for a Laurel (20 shillings) of James I, 3rd coinage, dating to AD 1619-1625 (Withers and Withers, 1995: pp. 12-13). The weight is roughly square in form and on the front face depicts a laureate and draped bust left within a pelleted circle. The reverse carries a crowned mark of value XX/s within an inner circle, countermarkes with a crowned letter I (for James I) at top left. It measures approximately 17mm in width, 2mm in thickness, and c.7g in weight. As Withers and Withers,1995: pp. 12-13, 68.
