An unidentified copper-alloy and gilded object of Unknown date and uncertain function. This object is circular and the front is decorated with a 'triskele'-like motif. The motif is in the form of curvilinear lines forming three evenly spaced conjoined 'scrolls'. The front has a patterned border of continuous oblique lines. The reverse is flat and plain with whitish patches of corrosion. On the rear face, just below the protrusion, a small pale circular area is possibly a break. This object is drab green with patches of a dark green patina. Traces of gilding can be seen on both sides.…

Cast copper alloy fitting, hollow, D sectioned with a 2.0mm wide x 0.9mm deep, square sectioned, transverse rib around its wider end. Both ends are now open but the opening on the flatter end may be a result of damage. The date and function of this object are unknown. It section, at 2.1mm at the open end and 1,0mm at the open end is too thin for it to be a Bronze Age gouge and a later date seems likely. Length 46.5mm, Width 27.6mm, Thickness 14.5mm, Mass 35.86g (including earth fill).

Copper alloy unidentified object. Flat cast oval plate with a narrower oval panel of length 26.5mm stamped centrally on one side, to a depth of 0.6mm. The panel bears about 13 transverse grooves which appear to have been stamped or incised in its base. The appearance of the grooves and the ridges left between them is not dissimilar to that of simple lettering, though probably fortuitously so. A function relating to some indeterminate craft might be posited, though the cuts marks are neither so numerous nor so straight as might appear on a palm guard or 'sailmaker's glove'. Accompanying…

An incomplete copper-alloy unidentified object of an uncertain date. It consists of a sub-rectangular case, which is open on its back face and has breaks on the rearward projecting short sides. Inside the case there are traces of cement and iron corrosion product on the inner face of one of its short side. The front face is integral cast with a sub-cylindrical element, which is set at right angle to the case itself; where the two elements meet there is a faceted junction, which is followed by an unclear raised collar. The latter is heavily covered by iron corrosion products and it has…

A fragment of an unknown copper alloy object of uncertain date. The fragment is semi circular and curved in shape. It is sub rectangular in cross section, narrowing as it curves to a rounded point. At the widest end there is a worn break. On the outside and inside of the object there is a continual indentation running around the centre, this is either decoration or from casting. The object is incomplete, testified by a rectangular protrusion on the outer edge which has an abraded, broken edge on either side. How much of the object is missing cannot be determined. The object has a rough, brown surface. It is 29.44mm in length, 25.82mm in width and 3.98mm in thickness. It weighs 6.43g. A copper alloy unideintified object of uncertain date, Roman to Post Medieval, AD 43 - 1700. It is a flat plate with almost all the edges broken. It is roughly D shaped in plan. The straight edge is complete in the middle, but broken at the ends,so this edge was either recessed or perhaps a hinge fitting or a slot perhaps for use as a catch. The curved edge has the broken remains of three large sub circular perforations in three projecting lobes with V shaped notches between them. The holes have diameters of about 5mm. They could have been used for attahment, but are too big to be rive…

Copper alloy possible mount fragment, as kindly suggested by the finder. The end of each remaining arm bears a stamped impression resembling a ring and dot of diameter 4.4mm, with a larger but similar feature of diameter 6mm on the central rhomboid. Though a pit appears at the end of one arm in the ring and dot, it is not carried through the plate and so cannot be a fixing point. Suggested date: Unknown, Early Medieval to Medieval, 410-1500. …
