Copper alloy wire. Two strands of drawn copper alloy wire of diameter 2mm; on strand being wrapped tightly around the other, cut at one or both ends. This may simply be a sport involving two pieces of scrap, though the configuration might also be apt to a simple electrical function. The diameter of the wire appears to respect the metric system, it may therefore be of recent date. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1950 Length: 41.6mm, Diameter (as found): 6.9mm, Weight: 6.45gms

An incomplete Modern copper alloy window latch, dating 18th-19th century. The latch is solidly cast formed of a circular loop-section with the bit projecting off at one end and traces of another projection at the other end. There are traces of another projection above the bit. The bit is at a 90 degree angle to the loop and consists of three rectangular teeth. The loop appears to have an internally bevelled edge, caused by drilling, and is slightly squashed so that it almost D-shaped. This would have been the pivot for the latch. On first obvservation this was identified as a Roman…

Possibly Copper alloy whistle. Cast tube with a pair of opposed rectangular slots at one end and a metal plate or reed within it at the other; an apparently separately cast and collared mouthpiece is attached at the slotted end. The tubular element bears the stamped legend: J. HUDSON & Co / Birmingham / 1916, which may supply an apt date. The manufacture of a whistle in Birmingham may suggest it was intended for military or police use as such objects would more usually be home made in an agricultural setting. Suggested date: Modern. Length: 62.1mm, Diameter (mouthpiece): 18.2mm, …

Object is a copper alloy, probable traction engine steam whistle. The date is unknown, but the object is likely to have come from the 19th/21st century. It is a narrow cylinder shape with two small cylindrical protrusions in the middle of the object that might have allowed the object to rest in a bracket. One terminal of the object appears to be able to screw into another object.  The whistle is plain and has no decoration. It has a round cap terminal at one end. The whistle has light green, brown and black patina across the surface. The object weighs…

Copper alloy Wheel. Possible machinery fitting. A cast wheel of low plano-convex section with four spokes and a central axle hole of diameter 3.3mm. Though bearing remains of patina, the diameter of the object is very consistent, so it should probably be regarded as from a mechanism. Suggested date: Modern, 1800-1900. Diameter: 20.1mm, Thickness: 1.8mm, Weight: 1.93gms.

Copper alloy wheel. Probably die-stamped drive wheel from a clockwork toy steam engine, with ten spokes of plano-convex section radiating from a broad central thickened hub to a flanged rim, and with a socket for a drive shaft set abutting the hub between two of the spokes. Iron staining on the back suggests the wheel was formerly mounted on a steel axle. Probably modelled at a scale of 1:32 or 54mm. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1950. Copper alloy Wheel. Probably pressed metal flanged wheel with three round apertures and a lug, probably one half of a two-part pulley wheel. The flange has opposed spurs probably relating to its function; the hub of the wheel projects externally and is dimpled within, it was probably gripped externally by paired brackets. Possibly from a domestic pulley system, as used to raise and lower indoor clothes drying racks; similar objects also served to route bell pull wires where domestic servants were employed, and for related purposes. A copper alloy Victorian half-ounce trade weight. The weight resembles a shallow cup shape with the short side tapering to the base. On the top surface, there is a central crown mark present with 'VR' beneath. This belongs to the Victorian period. Also, there are more off-centre marks, with another crown and '[W]W' beneath, and a strange symbol. It measures 25.24mm x 5.35mm, weighing 13.14g/0.46oz. This weight dates between 1837 and 1901.
