Object is an incomplete, small, copper alloy flat axehead, probably dating from the Early Bronze Age period (c. BC 2350 - c. BC 2050). A near complete cast copper alloy decorated flat axehead probably of Needham’s Class 3, possibly type b (Boreland) c. 2200-1900 BC. The axe is broken mid-blade with none of the butt remaining, making further diagnostics unobtainable. There are two grooves running down the centre of the blade on one side which thicken and flare before terminating before the blades edge. Measurements: Length 87.1mm, Width 88.7mm at blade, tapering to 40.6mm at break, Thickness 11mm at break, tapering to 3.9mm at cutting edge, Weight 277g.

An Early Bronze Age flat axehead. The find is truncated into two fragments with an irregular break towards the butt. The axe is pitted with a light brown and mid green patina. The surfaces are flat and do not show any signs of side flanges. From the butt, which is sub-oval in profile, the sides of the axe expand in width to the blade.
