Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A section of a copper alloy axehead. It is triangular in section, being a blunt point on one side, and crescent shaped, but not symmetrical across its break, being more pointed at one end than the other. The blade is not facetted. There is some loss of material from the faces. Along the broken face there is a suggestion that it might have been hollow and therefore a section of socketed axehead, but this is not definitive.
Dimensions: It is 67mm long, 21mm wide and 11.5mm thick. It weigh 56.83g

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Gwynedd
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A heavily worn and incomplete Bronze Age palstave axe head.
Extensive surface loss has occurred along the edges and surfaces of the find, giving the axe and thin irregular form.
The butt end is sub-square, and is slightly more truncated to one side. From the butt, the sides flare slightly. The side flanges are missing; however, the stop ridge is still prominently visible, especially on one side. From the stop ridge, the blade tapers slightly (due to surface loss) before flaring marginally to the cutting edge which is heavily truncated and rounded. A partial rib is visible on one face…

A copper alloy fragment, probably of a Bronze Age axehead not further defined dating c. 2050-800 cal BC.
The fragment is an elongated D shape in plan with a sub-triangular profile and comprises the worn crescentic cutting edge of an axehead. The blade tips don't survive. The transverse break is worn and the object has patches of a glossy dark green patina.

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete copper-alloy flat axehead of early Bronze Age date, c.2150 - 1500 BC. The axehead is sub-trapezoidal with an ovate section. It expands to a flared cutting edge at one end and terminates in a worn break at the opposite end. The cutting edge is worn.
The axehead is extremely worn and undecorated. No signs of ridges or flanges are present indicating that this is an early flat axe.
The metal has a delaminated mid-brown/green patina. The axehead is 43.7mm long, 29.6mm wide, 12.1mm thick and weighs 53.3g.

A fragment of a middle to late bronze age copper alloy axehead of uncertain type dating between 1600-800 BC
The solid fragment consists of the blade end of the axehead. The blade corners are missing and the cutting edge is very worn. The rest of the object is lost to a worn oblique break. The entire object is heavily worn and pitted, with a mottled green/brown patina.
Dimensions: length: 40.08mm, width: 24.59mm, thickness: 7.57mm, weight: 28.33g.
Too little of this axehead remains to be certain of the type it derives from. It is probably from a …

A fragment of Late Bronze Age socketed axehead of uncertain type, probably a South-Eastern type of the Wilburton/Wallington period, probably the Ewart Park phase of metalworking, c. AD 1000-800 BC. Only part of the rounded rim and wall of the axehead survives. The mouth was probably sub-rectangular given the surviving corner, likely suggesting a body that was sub-rectangular in cross-section. A casting seam extends from the rim to the base of a sub-oval-sectioned loop. The seam has been trimmed but not hammered. The loop break is extremely worn. There is no decoration on the outer…

The blade edge is convex while the the cross section of the axe at the break is a pointed oval. The fragment has a medium green patina that is pitted in places.

Fragment of a copper alloy axe, probably a palstave, of bronze age date c1400-950BC.
Only the cutting blade end survives, therefore its original form is uncertain and the possibility that it is a flat axehead or a short flanged axehead cannot entirely be ruled out. The upturned tips of the blade are reminiscent of Arreton/Bandon flagged axes of EBA III to MBA I (Peter Revill pers comm).
The fragment is broadly sub rectangular in plan with a wide, crescent shaped blade. The cutting edge appears to be bevelled over two phases, suggesting that it has been sharpened.&…

Part of a cast, flat copper alloy axehead, dating to the Bronze Age.
The axehead is small and relatively narrow. It is broadly sub-triangular in plan with a rounded blade. The cutting edge has a width of 34.9mm and a thickness of 4.8mm, appearing to have been chipped or damaged. From the cutting edge, the body of the axehead gradually narrows, linearly, with the faces and edges all being slightly curved. The axehead also gradually gets thicker towards the end of the piece. The butt has been damaged and broken off, the fracture measuring approximately 25mm…

Possible fragment of a Bronze Age copper alloy flat axe head, c. BC 2350-801.
The artefact consists of a solid, sub-rectangular copper alloy fragment with rectangular profile. One of the edges is linear and bevelled with a rounded corner and some small nicks and dents, possibly resulting from use as a cutting edge. The opposite edge is more irregular and not bevelled. One short end looks intact, with a rounded corner. The opposite short end is broken diagonally. One face has a smooth, brown patina. The other face has a brown patina which has been pitted and dented revealing green corr…
