Ceramic building material. Sandy oxidised fabric; two small concavo-convex sherds, land drain tile fragments. Fiercely abraded. The manufacture of tubular land drain tiles became possible with the invention of extrusion machinery in the 1840s. Given a long family occupation of the farm whence these were reported, these were probably introduced by an ancestor of the finder, a point which may occur in records maintained if any such survive. A fragment of an abraded Roman oxidised vessel with lead vessel mend. The fragment is from probably a large bowl with very thick rim. Its posssible to estimate that the diameter of the vessel would have been above 300mm although less that 10% of the circumference now survives. A fragment of Medieval ceramic floor tile. The tile has an orange red fabric with speckled inclusions. In the upper surface is a design in white enamel that is to small to identify the original design. This surface also has brown glaze across both the white enamel undecorated portions of the tile. The reverse is plain and undecorated having an irregular surface. The tile fragment is 67mm long, 52.1mm wide, 23.9mm thick and weighs 82.12 grams. An incomplete tobacco pipe, dating from the second half of the 19th century AD, moulded into the form of a Turk's head, with drooping moustache and a cylindrical Ottoman style hat. The neck is sharply angled to emerge from moulded leaves and a rounded collar at the socket (19.2mm diameter) connecting to a separate stem, which has been lost. The bowl is incomplete but was around 29mm in diameter.
