A complete cloisonné mount from an uncertain object, though probably a disc brooch, of Early-Medieval date, c.AD 950 - 1150.
The mount comprises a flat copper-alloy backplate with raised edges and deep inset enamel. The mount is decorated with a cloisonné design formed by strips of copper-alloy creating a field of dark blue, a central circular cell of lighter blue and four evenly spaced pointed ovate, leaf-like cells of alternating mid-blue and white enamel.
The mount is 17.2mm in diameter, 3.1mm thick and weighs 1.6g.
Early-Medieval cloisonné brooches with similar enamelled inlays have been recorded on the database including KENT-E9C398, PAS-366BC7 and ESS-ADA231. Dr Kevin Leahy, National Finds Adviser for Early Medieval metalwork, comments that, while the attribution of a brooch is likely for this object, it is not definite. Other objects such as finger rings are also found containing such decorated features.

It has three arms branching outwards from a central point, each vertically flattened and tapering slightly towards an abrupt break. In the centre of the upper face a suspension arm projects upwards at a right-angle, terminating in an incomplete circular loop, its outer end missing. A further small loop projects from the centre of the lower face. The surface is corroded and the breaks are well worn.
Egan (1998, 131, fig.99, nos.356-7) illustrates two similar examples and suggests that they were used to suspend ceramic or glass lamps from the ceiling or were even used as censer hangers.
