Body sherd from a pottery vessel of probable medieval date. The sherd is likely to be from a relatively thin walled unglazed vessel; not enough survives to suggest the overall size or form; but the fabric of the vessel would suggest a functional utilitarian use such as a storage jar. The fabric is a hard earthen ware which is mica rich, having abundant angular and sub-angular white and rose quartz, and frequent inclusions of grog. Rim sherd of a large substantial thin walled cooking pot or storage jar probably dating from the late 14th century (1300-1400 AD). The fabric is a very hard over fired or burnt earthen ware which is very shiny. The fabric colour is mid-brown black with small rounded inclusions. The outer and inner surfaces of the sherd are a mid-dark brown / black colour. The outer surface may have been slightly burnished. There is no glaze present.
