Late Early Medieval tin-copper alloy pseudo-nummular brooch of Weetch type 2.Ai. The brooch is circular with a raised, cast, design on the front of a left facing radiate crowned bust with multiple lines of drapery below and to the lower right and a pseudo legend to the left all within a double line beaded border. The nonsense legend appears to read cHc or possibly oIID. An upside down V to the right of the head probably represents to tie from a diadem. The back is lain with the stubs of a broken pin lug and catchplate. These are arranged on opposites sides and run vertically down t…

An incomplete military badge dating to the end of the 19th century (c1830-1870). The badge is manufactured from pressed sheet metal and depicts a bugle badge. It is possible that the central part of the badge would originally have had a motif that would link it to a specific regiment - this is now missing. The rear of the badge has lost its integral slider clip that would have been used to attach it to a cap. However, two loops and a crude pin have been added, possible in order for the badge to be re-used. The outer surface is heavily pitted although there are some faint traces of the…

A thin raised ring at the top seperates the body of the whistle from the mouth-piece. Immediately below this upper ring is the semi-circular aperture which allows the sound to escape. The object is mostly intact although here is damage to the end of the mouthpiece, and some distortion of shape from erosion processes. On the front of the button is a crude face with a wedge-shaped nose, pellet eyes above which are eye-brows and bar representing the mount. There appears to be a crown over the top of the face. This button may be compared to NLM-D526F2 which, in turn, is compared to buttons bearing the CR monogram suggesting a seventeenth century date. Certainly these buttons are technically, if not stylistically, similar. If this is a depiction of the k…
