A near complete copper-alloy and iron rock crystal-set probable reliquary mount of medieval date (c.AD 1100-1250). Description: The object is sub-oval in plan, the oval cabochon-cut rock crystal set within a corroded bezel constructed from a copper-alloy base plate and iron rim. The rock crystal cabochon has been highly polished in such a way that a central ridge runs along its centre top to bottom. A garnet gemstone measuring 6 mm by 4.2 mm by 1.9 mm. Given the comment from Kieran McCarthy of Wartski (see below), it is highly likely this is the missing setting for finger-ring HAMP-6C5109 / 2017 T761 (pictured). This is an amber bead, probably of Medieval - Post Medieval date, 14th - 16th century. The bead is a rounded oval in plan with facetted sides. The perforation has been drilled from both ends. Hazel Forsyth notes that is it very difficult to date beads. The amber is probably from the Baltic and either washed up on UK shores or was traded by Danzig to the Netherlands where there was a massive industry in these type of objects. The bead is too small to have come from a rosary so perhaps it formed part of a long string of beads or maybe it was a single decoration on a dress fitting.…

Gold finger ring, with rectangular bezel for a gem setting, which is missing. The hoop is broken at its narrowest point, opposite the bezel. Alternatively, the hoop may have been penannular. The bezel is rectangular, with a bird's talon design at each corner. Both the bezel and hoop are decorated with a 'cable' design.
