A complete lead/tin alloy whistle dating from the post-medieval period. The whistle consists of a perforated pipe adjoining a hollow sphere with a suspension loop and small sub-circular perforation. Mass: 6.6g; maximum length: 37.8mm; maximum diameter of sphere (including rib): 16.9mm; diameter of pipe: 7.3mm; lengthof pipe: 17.3mm. The pipe is generally circular in section, but there is both a large notch and a constriction with a C shaped opening in the tube. A cast white metal single looped buckle frame with offset strap bar. The outer edge has two barrel type mouldings furnishing a central groove. The pin is missing. It is 17.8mm long, 26mm wide and 3.4mm thick and weighs 3.74 grams. Whitehead (2003) illustrates a similar buckles (page 21) which he dates to c.1250-1400 AD.

The central joint of a pair of scissors, comprising the lowest parts of the blades and handles and the iron pivot. Around the pivot on each side is a pair of incised concentric circles; each side also has a single engraved line between the joint and one handle which mirrors the edge of the blade on the opposite handle. There are traces of white metal coating. They are probably Post Medieval, seventeeth century in date. 15.1mm long, 11.8mm wide, 3.0mm thick and 2.13 grams.

Fragment of cast white-metal Post-Medieval sleeve or handle cover, probably for a knife, probably with a whittle tang. One end is broken, the other open and intact. Probably a tube of rectangular section, all of one side and the stubs of two others survive. On exterior of the intact side in well executed rocker-arm engraving XW or MX. A waste product of white metal. This melted piece of metal is thin at one end and rounded towards the other. The material appears to be too light to be lead unless the piece is hollow. The pitted surface and irregular shape suggest that the piece is not deliberately formed and is probably the result of metal working.

The body is stamped with: “BLACKETT SADDLER NORTHAMPTON”. A Robert Blackett is recorded from 1823 (Balne’s Directory) and 1840 (White’s Directory) and a ‘Blackett E & Son’ from 1890 (Bulmer’s Directory).

There are a number of issues with this coin, in that the metal it is made from is not standard silver, instead it seems to be an amalgam or white metal alloy. This would indicate either it being a contemporary copy (which would explain the clipping around the edge) or a modern forgery or copy, probably produced on a relatively small scale for sale in museums and for modern collectors). A cast, metal, annular ring of uncertain date, probably dating from the Middle Bronze Age to Medieval period (1600 BC-AD 1500).
Description: the ring is complete with what appears to be a pointed 'D' shaped cross-section giving it a lenticular side profile. There is a shallow 'V' shaped notch or constriction on the the outer edge of the ring. The outer surface is decorated with irregular, sub-parallel short lines or dashes that radiate out from the inner edge of the aperture on both sides, and on either side of the apex of the outer edge.
