A cast lead alloy fitting - possibly a window catch or latch of unknown date - most probably post medieval or modern 1650-1850. The fitting is incomplete it is broadly rectangular in plan and C shaped in cross section. It tapers from one edge to the other. The upper surface has a crude rectangular hole cut through it. The reverse is damaged by the edges being forced together to form a hollow rod. From the style an early modern date is best preferred - probably 1650-1750. A similar but not directly comparable fitting has been recorded by the PAS from Skirpenbeck, Yorkshire (YORYM-47FF…

A fragment of medieval lead alloy tracery, probably from a window grille or ventilator, dating to c.1200-1500. It is a triangular piece with old breaks and an L-shaped back 5.5mm thick. A diagonal rib at roughly two thirds of the distance from the corner along each line creates a 'filled-in' area c.1.5mm thick, with additions to both side of apparently sheet lead, up to the height of the L-shaped arm. This part of the object therefore has a T-shaped cross-section (without the additional sheeting). Extending at a right angle to the longer arm, just above the diagonal rib, is an arm r…

Incomplete cast pewter whistle in for the form of a hunting horn or pipe, beyond which is what appears to be a Medieval purse, defined by a border of pellets in relief. The horn or pipe expands into a circular recessed bowl with everted rim, and at the centre of the base of the bowl there is a small air hole, 1.5 mm in diameter. The other end of the horn has a circular aperture, 3 mm in diameter, which the user would have blown into, and the whistle is small enough that this end could be held between the teeth to allow both hands to be free. There are two intact iron rivets at the bac…
