An incomplete Post Medieval lead alloy (pewter) military button of the 3rd Foot Guards "Scots Guards" dating from AD1775-1800. This is an enlisted man's cast 1-piece button. The front of the button has the Order of the Thistle. 3 and G with a thistle between, within a cross with points in angles made up of different length radiating lines. A cast lead alloy button dating to the post medieval period, about AD 1500 - 1650. It is circular and domed with a flat back. The front is decorated with a central pellet, from which radiate four paired of raised curving lines, each flanked by three pellets on the inside of the curve.  On the reverse is a casting seam, however the attachment loop is missing. The button measures: Diameter 15.96mm, height 7.01mm without shank, weight 4.11g. Compare SWYOR-8C31B6 which is similar in design.

In between these is a ring of six smaller cirlces, and around the circumferece is a series of small dots with small parallel lines between them. Medieval-Post Medieval lead alloy button, c.AD 1450-1650. This button is made from a reused lead token, with two parallel holes pierced through the face. The original token had a fleur de lis on the obverse and the initials IS on the reverse, which would have classified it as a Powell type 4 and Powell type 2.

The front has a central cross design in relief, created by four chevron shaped recesses. The arms of the cross terminate in a raised circular border. The back of the object retains a partial integral attachment loop on the reverse, cast as one with the button. There is a retained raised casting seam to either side of the attachment loop. The base of the head is flat and in the centre is an integral, circular attachment loop. The object has a dark cream patina. Dimensions: Length 8.7mm; diameter 10.2mm; weight 2.04g Similar buttons are illustrated in Read (2010, 72-4) though these typically have decorated heads, they date from the 16th-17th century.
