A complete medieval to post medieval uniface token, dating to c. AD 1400 to 1800. One side is decorated with raised cross hatching (Powell type 7). Reverse has a 'B' or '13' etched or scratched into it. Grey/Brown patina. 4.9g, 20.4mm dia and 2.3mm thick

A 14th century medieval 'Lombard' jetton of a lead alloy. Objects of this type were used for the reckoning of debts on a counting board, especially in European financial institutions of the 13-16th century. This particular example is Italian and possibly refers to the Riccardi family, dating to the 14th century. It appears that it would have originally been roughly circular or at least ovoid, but damage, possibly within the soil, has left two large notches. one is more rounded than the other and appears to have happened earlier or to be a flaw of the original flan. A complete lead alloy unifaced token, of Medieval to Post Medieval dating (AD 1300 to AD 1600). The token is sub circular in plan. The obverse depicts a cross, with short central, upper and lower bars (probably Powell type 14). The reverse is plain and undecorated. The token has a diameter of 23.4 mm and is 3.3 mm thick. It weighs 8.6 g. The token is a mid grey colour, with an even surface patina. Lead tokens are a frequently occurring find, with a variety of different designs.
