Gold circular band: this band is formed of hammered gold with a rough concave interior, suggesting that it was intended as a mount of some kind, rather than a finger ring. In the absence of any context or distinguishing stylistic features, this item is undatable.

CURATOR'S REPORT
Early Medieval gold and garnet setting. Possibly 7th century.
Description of find
Fragment of an early medieval, torn and distorted gold setting, still containing some ?garnet cloisonné. In a separate bag, two tiny garnet fragments and a small fragment of wavered gold foil with an upright cell wall. The gold setting appears to have been one end of an originally ?oval (presuming that it was symmetrical) object. It is warped and the wider end of the ?oval tore off at one point, damaging the object severely and leaving a jagged edge behind. On an open, horizontal …

A decorated gold mount, probably of 12th or 13th century date from contextual information.
A gold fragment decorated with twin spirals formed from a single line of small gold balls with each end of the line terminating in a small loop. Borders at top and bottom are formed from lines of slightly larger gold balls.
The artefact appears to be part of a decorative fitting. It measures 7mm by 4mm and is wafer thin. The decoration appears to have been applied to the decorated surface and not embossed from beneath, thought the application process has affected the rear of the artefact. Th…

Description: A medieval gold mount. The mount is octagonal in shape and has a central setting, now distorted, which contains a reddish stone, probably a garnet, the upper surface of which is flat and polished. Surrounding this central setting there is a beaded border. On the reverse are two small piercings, presumably the means of attaching this mount to another component, perhaps the hoop of a finger ring or the frame of a brooch.

Treasure Report: Case 2006 T44 A thin gold ring, formed from a plain band with a slight ridge around the centre of the exterior surface. The ring may be a mount or fitting from a larger object. It is probably more than 300 years old, but as it lacks any diagnostic features or hallmarks it cannot be dated with any accuracy. The ring is bent. Max length: 27mm.

Treasure Case: 2009 T746 - Declared as 'Not Treasure'; Returned to finder.
A gold setting for a stone, rectangular with milled edges, hole in centre of base.

A medieval fitting in the shape of a Gothic letter, possibly the letter "a". On the reverse there are two studs; that were used to fix the letter to a leather or fabric strap.
The fitting is gold and dates from the fifteenth or early sixteenth century.
Dimensions: length 8 mm, width 6 mm.
Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

A small gold mount or fragment of jewellery constructed from a sheet of gold with applied decoration. The mount is circular, circa 7mm diameter and slightly domed. The reverse of the dome is hollow. The dome is surrounded by a perimeter band of gold beading. The perimeter of the object is jagged and largely mirrors the perimeter of the dome.
The original form and function of this object is unclear. It is somewhat comparable to 7th-century studs from Rushton, Northamptonshire (TAR 2005/6, p. 97, no. 299 - 2006 T320, NARC-77D046), and Brighstone, Isle of Wight (2018T335, IOW-C4057B…

A flat piece of sheet gold decorated with very worn gold filigree. The object is now roughly triangular, with each edge probably having been cut to size. The object is decorated with four small annulets of beaded wire, and single and double lines and swirls again of beaded wire, soldered onto one face of the sheet to form an irregular design which is difficult to interpret.
Similar decorative features are also seen on plated sword pyramids (eg Newark, Notts TAR 1998-9, no. 62), which would seem more appropriate for the thinness of the present object. This fragment is in some ways…

Sheet gold band, soldered into a hoop, undecorated and unmarked, damaged at edges and flattened slightly into an oval shape in plan.
This gold band has been analysed by Sharon Uren at Camborne School of Mines using their ICPMS machine to isolate the isotopes within the metal to determine its age to see if it needs to be submitted as potential Treasure once it can be proven to be over 300 years old. The results were analysed by Dr Peter Northover of Oxford Materials who states that its silver content is very low, as are the palladium and platinum contents, which would suggest that it…

Treasure Case 2009 T647: British Museum Report:
Object Date: 7th century
Description: Cloisonné mount
Rectangular cloisonné mount consisting of a warped, box-shaped, sturdy frame into which geometric cells, now mostly damaged, are set. Most of the garnets have fallen out, but there are two left. One is broken and barely wedged into its cell, the other one has sunk in its cell, but its backing foil is in place and clearly visible.
The back is plain but bears the impression of the cell walls on the front. There are four rivet holes in the corners of the mount.
Discussion: The…

TREASURE CASE 2005 T420 Description A narrow rectangular strip of gold, plain except for a very light ridge running along the centre of one face. Either end has a perforation slightly offset from the centre-line and about 1 mm in diameter. One end has a second, smaller perforation alongside the first. The strip is somewhat buckled all along its length and has also been pinched from side to side at two points close to the ends. Two creases are roughly equi-distant from the ends and are 34 mm apart - exactly half the full length; they suggest that the object was originally wrapped aroun…

Description: Roughly circular or slightly oval gold object, apparently made from a piece of flat sheet. An oval area in the centre has been raised, and this pierced in the centre by a small circular hole c. 1mm in diameter. The face with the raised centre has fine concentric lines scratched or engraved around the flange, and an edge which appears slightly thickened in places. The raised centre has broad lines scored across it, perhaps as a result of damage while in the soil. The other face does not appear to have any markings other than those caused by general wear and tear. The circu…

An incomplete gold and garnet stud dating to the early Anglo-Saxon period. The stud is circular and consists of a base-plate of gold sheet to which has been soldered a gold collar and cloisonné cells for garnets. The collar is made from a band of twisted, beaded wire running around the outside edge of the stud, and an inner border comprising a single strand of beaded wire. Some of the beading appears worn.
Inside the collar is an upright gold strip forming an outer wall for the cloisonné cell-work. This wall curves slightly inwards towards the top, to form a cabochon shape for th…
