Gold finger ring with emerald setting. The hoop is broken and bent in on itself towards the bezel. The hoop is thin, and splits at both sides of the bezel into outward-facing spiral shoulders which are partly attached to the sides of the bezel. The collet-style (or 'pie-dish') bezel is irregular but roughly drop-shaped, and widens out on its lower half to a serrated rim, probably intended to resemble filigree wire. Atop this, the bezel collar accommodates a drop-shaped void in which the irregular polished emerald is placed. There is some damage to the emerald. Dimensions:…

The object is a Medieval gold finger ring. The ring has a slender hoop which has been distorted in plan. This distortion was probably due to plough damage, as it was found within the plough soil. The loop has a 'D' shaped section which slightly expands towards the bezel. The bezel is oval in plan and is set with a cabochon setting. Jon Radley (Keeper of Geology, Warwickshire Museum) commented the setting may be polished quartz, but this could not be confirmed unless a destructive analysis was carried out. A small, integral, transverse rectangular ridge decorates either side of …
