Gold, copper alloy, glass and iron compass, as identified by the finder. A circular copper alloy case with bevelled glass lid retains a white dial plate bearing two discernible cardinal points and a rusted needle; water has infiltrated and is retained by the case. The case is set within a plain annular concavo-convex frame with opposed collared seats for attachment to a fob. Stamps on the outer side include an anchor for the Birmingham assay office.
