A gold object of uncertain date or function, 25.2mm in length and composed of a pale alloy, likely electrum or a low quality gold. The object is flat but twisted and tapers to a curved end and with a ragged break across the wider end. The surface on both flat sides is unfinished and without evidence of working; it also demonstrates a texture suggesting that it is a cooled melt. Possibly a fragment of casting waste or a partially melted ingot from us metal working.

Undateable gold or yellow metal object, probably metal working waste, possibly Early Medieval bullion. It is sub-circular in plan and oval in cross-section. The globular form is undiagnostic, and it is therefore not possible to date with any degree of certainty. The weight is quite close to that of a half-ertog or eyrir (4 or 4.26g), but not sufficiently close to justify a firm date, especially since the object does not appear to be a finished item, which means the weight may not be significant on any weight standard. Metal working melts are known from the Viking Age, but the artefact…

Treasure Case 2012 T338: Gold Droplet from Brailes, Warwickshire. Casting waste, comprising a complete amorphous droplet of gold or gold alloy. The droplet measures 14.77mm long, 8.37mm wide and 6.71mm thick, weighing 5.1g. Iron Age coins have been recovered from the same farm (Treasure Case 2012 T726), and it has been suggested that gold such as this may have been connected with Iron Age gold working, such as coin production or recycling. However, a similar piece (2004 T408) was determined to be undiagnostic and undatable following metal analysis.

Date: Unknown Iron Age coins have been recovered from the same area, and it has been suggested that this piece of gold may have been connected with Iron Age gold working, such as coin production or recycling. However, a similar piece (2004 T408) was determined to be undiagnostic and undatable following metal analysis. As such, although the object has over 10% precious metal content by weight, the undiagnostic nature of the artefact means that it cannot be definitively dated pre1710 and as such…

REPORT FOR HM CORONER Treasure case 2006 T521: Kingsbury, Warks. Five small irregular gold lumps of indeterminate age or function. Total weight 33.77g Non-destructive surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated that the gold content is approximately 99%. In view of the undiagnostic nature of the lumps it is my opinion that they cannot be demonstrated to be Treasure under the terms of the 1996 Treasure Act.
