A gold thrymsa, Crondall phase issue, known as the 'witmen monita' type. The coin belongs to (what seems to be) a later phase of their issue on a smaller flan (c.11.5-12mm) but the same weight (c.1.3g). The reverse legend is a much blundered version of 'WITMEN MONITA'. cf. Crondall Hoard nos. 69-79, especially no. 79 (Metcalf 1993, Thrymsas and Sceattas, pl. I no. 11), and also another in Sutherland's Anglo-Saxon Gold Coinage in the Biblioteque Nationale (Sutherland Pl. IV no. 12). Early to mid 7th century, c. 600-675 AD.

A 7th-century early-medieval pale gold shilling (thrymsa) of Constantine or Oath-taking type (Sutherland type II.ii; North 17), East Anglian and dating c. 650-675. The reverse (illustrated here the wrong way up) shows an abstract derivative of a Roman trophy. See Metcalf 1994: 47-8 and Gannon 2013 (SCBI 65): 93-4.The coin is struck from a known pair of dies, represented by examples from Coddenham, Suffolk (EMC 1998.10007), Happisburgh, Norfolk (NMS-0C5A70), Wickenby, Lincs (EMC 2001.0691), and a pierced example from Stradsett, Norfolk (EMC 2006.0244).

A pale gold 7th-century Anglo-Saxon shilling modified for usage as a pendant or similar item, c.660-680 AD. It is of Sutherland type II.ii.var: Roman: Constantine (26var) with star-like object on the obverse instead of hand and cross as in Sutherland 26. The coin has been pierced and the remains of a separately cast cylindrical silver rivet are present towards one side of the flan, indicative of modification for usage as something other than a coin. A 7th-century Early Medieval gold coin; a thrymsa of the York Group (dating from 640 - 660 AD), of a new type classified as type D. The obverse resembles a standing figure facing forward holding a cross in each hand. The reverse has a central cross with flaring limbs and a lozenge in the centre. The cross is within a circle. Instead of a legend, the coin has four cross pommees arranged alternately with pairs of open triangles facing each other (runic 'd') to form an hourglass of figure or eight on its side.

An Anglo-Saxon gold shilling of the 'York' group, type C. The coin is one of 19 known examples of the 'York' group of Gold Shillings. These were struck in the first half of the seventh century, the first coinage ever made in the town of York. Until recently their attribution to a mint in York was uncertain but recent finds, which show a clear Yorkshire focus, have made this attribution very likely. A slightly chipped early-medieval gold tremissis of an anonymous 7th century ruler, dating to the period c.AD 640-660. Two emperors type probably dating, North (1994) No. 20, Metcalf no. 79-80. Obverse: Bust right wearing a pearled diadem and cuirass indicated by dots, legend mostly unclear or nonsense followed possiby by TIE. Reverse: No legend. Stylized figure of Victory enfolding the heads of two small busts. Very pale gold, almost silver in colour. This coin is in very good condition. Measurments: 12.48mm in diameter, 1.43mm thick and 1.26g in weight.
