A torn sub-triangular fragment of gold sheet, 21.7mm in length and 19.7mm wide, apparently from a leaf ornament, with repousse lines suggesting veins radiating from a central stalk. The fragment is torn at the tip and base of the leaf and there are no attachment holes or fixings evident.

Record ID: PAS-9E1D37
Object type: SHEET
Broad period: MODERN
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Treasure case 2005 T303 Two joining fragments of corrugated gold sheet, seemingly originally of tubular form, now crushed. The form, style and overall appearance of the fragments do not correspond to any known ancient type, and scientific analysis of the body metal and soldered seam confirm the curatorial view that the sheet is part of an object of recent date, probably manufactured within the last hundred years or so. Date: 19th or 20th century. Dimensions: Total length of two joining frags. 61 mm. Weight: Total, 5.69 g. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of…

Object type: SHEET
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A torn fragment of gold sheet, broadly semi-circular in shape and possibly decorated radial lines or other motifs, but now too worn and crumpled to discern. There are two irregular and ragged holes in the sheet, which are likely to represent damage rather than fixings.

Record ID: SUR-2F78F6
Object type: SHEET
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A fragment of gold sheet apparently decorated with repousse ornament. The fragment is an irregular, three-sided shape and has probably been cut down. One edge is curved, one straight and one now jagged with a notch missing. The surface appears to be decorated with a repousse design which can no longer be deciphered with certainty, except for some curved lines and dots. This object is too fragmentary to identify and date with full confidence. Objects made from and decorated with repousse gold sheet are known from the early Anglo-Saxon period, which could offer a potential broad dating.…

Object type: SHEET
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A Bronze age strip of sheet gold which long, cigar shaped with squared off terminals. At either end is a set of three small perforations set in a triangle. These are roughly circular piercings with evidence for rotational action in their formation; the tiny lips of metal pushed through to the reverse have been crudely doubled back and flattened. There is no evidence for decoration. The strip has many transverse creases consistent with it having been rolled up and crushed flat (see above circumstances). The main additional damage is a repeating pattern of rounded hammer dents of varied…
