Post-Medieval (19th century) fob seal. The gold (or possibly more likely gold-coated) fob seal is in the form of a standing owl, with an integral loop protruding from the top of the head. The owl stands on a thick rectangular platform which has rounded corners. The platform is trapezoidal in cross-section, and the sides are decorated with a moulded floral design. A complete gold seal matrix dating to the Post Medieval to Early Modern period (c. AD 1750-1900). The object has a heptagonal handle with an integral suspension loop at the apex. The handle has evenly spaced longitudinal channels running from a collar below the suspension loop down the handle to just above the matrix setting. A rounded knop crowns the suspension loop. The seal matrix itself is made of a black stone with the initials DE in black script in the centre of the matrix.
