A thin gold ring shaped object, with ornate spiralled design and oval lilac stone setting. Dark areas indicate that this object could consist of gold leaf over another material. This may not have originally been a finger-ring; the material is extremely thin, too thin to conceivably be used to construct a finger-ring. It is indicated that the item has been straightened and glued, making identification difficult. The object is not in its original state and so identification in the current condition could be misleading and therefore there is no evidence to date to pre 1711.

Treasure case 2009 T626 Description: Plain gold band; slightly misshapen. Flattened edges on the band indicate that this is a fitting rather that a finger-ring. There are no diagnostic features to this fitting and as such it is impossible to date. Dimensions: Diameter: 14mm. Thickness: 1mm. Weight: 1.2g Conclusion: Due to the undiagnostic nature of the find it cannot be securely dated to pre-1709 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996. A gold ring of uncertain date. The ring has been badly damaged by the plough and as a result has been pulled out of shape. The ring is complete and still roughly circular (maximum diameter 23.09mm) and the gold is very thin (only 1.03mm thick). The maximum width of the hoop is about 4.7mm. There is no decoration on the ring, and it does not look worn; it may have been a decorative binding ring, for example from a walking stick, instead of a finger-ring.

Description: Undated gold ring. Slightly irregular section, D-shaped externally with a median arris internally. The internal surface is irregular and not well finished / smoothed in some areas. Date: Undated. Dimensions: Internal diameter 16 - 17mm. External diameter 22 - 22.5mm. Width of band 4 - 4.5mm. Thickness of band 2.5 - 3mm. Weight 6.7g. Discussion: The lack of diagnostic features make this ring difficult to date. The irregular section of the band would be unusual for a post-medieval finger ring, the form and plainness would be unusual for a ring of Roman to Medieval dat…

Gold ring. A thin possibly lightly hammered ring, perhaps of drawn wire, now distorted and bent. The band is twisted at one point. The current sad form is probably the result of adventitious damage. Thin gold wires might form parts of Roman pendant ear rings, though a much later use as a finger ring or necklace component, or an origin as debris from craftwork is equally possible. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Post-Medieval, 43-1900 Length (as found): 22.7mm, Width: 11.9mm, Thickness (wire): 0.9mm, Weight: 0.58gms

A probably Late Bronze Age (1100-750 BC) gold ring of hexagonal cross-section, with flat internal and external faces, the faces to either side being angled. There is little sign of wear, except for some light scratches. The inside face features a slightly off-centre internal join at one point, suggesting having been made in a mould. The angled face above this has a slight fracture in the surface. It is likely this ring might have been a linking component of a composite object or suite of fittings. However, it is insufficiently diagnostic in appearance to assign a specific function. …

The find comprises a loop of thick gold wire of roughly circular cross-section, the ends overlapping. Onto this are threaded nine rings, seven of which are of the type known as composite; two are simple rings. One of the latter (i) is a loop of gold wire with overlapping ends; the wire tapers from one end to the other. The other (ii) is a penannular ring of round-sectioned wire, the terminals close together. Of the composites: (iii) is a triple ring of three lightly C-sectioned strips probably soldered together. The terminals of one meet; the other two display a narrow gap. (iv) is a…

A probably Late Bronze Age (1100-750 BC) solid gold ring of hexagonal cross-section, with flat upper and lower faces, and the internal and external faces to either side being angled. Two areas opposite each other display some wear gloss on the inner surfaces. The outer faces have fairly uniform lack of wear, but do have some scratches. It is 28.4mm external diameter, 20.5mm internal diameter, 4mm thick and weighs 13.2g. The internal angle makes it unlikely that this ring was worn as a finger ring. It is likely to have been a linking component of a composite object or suite of fit…
