An incomplete gold cross pendant in the form of a crucified Christ probably dating from the medieval to post-medeival period.
Three arms have survived, the lower arm has broken off and is now missing. Both sides of the cross carries the image of Christ on a cross delineated by grooves, with stretched out arms and possibly wearing a belt or traces of a robe around his waist. Treasure case 2012 T243: Acquired by Somerset Museums
Description
The object comprises a gold coin set within an iron mount. The coin was produced in central-southern Britain during the late Iron Age, probably between about 40 BC and 20 BC. Although little detail of the original design survives, it is an example of a coin-type known as 'British Qb'. These coins are traditionally ascribed to the Atrebates, a people thought to have lived in the Hampshire area in the Iron Age. In fact, find-spots now suggest that these coins may also have been produced further to the west in Gloucest…

Its back is plain but has an elongated metal tab running diagonally from the damaged corner to the mid point. There is a single rivet hole through the back-plate.
Surface analysis
Gold and silver content of approximately 61-66% amd 30-33% respectively, and confirms the gem as glass.

CURATOR'S REPORT
A gold pendant, incorporating a Visigothic gold tremissis in the name of the Roman Emperor Anastasius I of Byzantium (r.491-518).
Description of find
The coin has been made into a pendant, showing the Victory reverse, probably in England in the 6th or early 7th century, when coin-jewellery of this type was fashionable. It shows two suspension points, which may have been made at the same time. It appears to have a gold suspension loop, but only a small piece now survives; this is plainer than is usual for the period, being a simple flat bar, soldered to one side…

A gold 'bulla' pendant of early Anglo-Saxon date. The pendant is circular with a domed centre. The reverse was also domed, but both faces are now dented. A suspension loop is wide and flat and is decorated with two longitudinal grooves, leaving the edges and the centre of the strip raised. The pendant was made from a single piece of sheet metal which was cut into the shape of two circular discs joined by the band now forming the suspension loop. It is likely the grooves on the loop were added next, along with the domes being formed, and then the loop was bent round a form, bringing th…

An Anglo-Saxon gold pendant of the seventh century. The pendant was originally flat and oval but is now bent. The pendant originally had a setting (which is likely to have been of cabochon-cut garnet or glass) held in place by way of a narrow internal lip on the front. The lip is an extension of the back-plate, folded up and decorated with two bands of beaded filigree soldered onto the surface. The outer band has larger pellets than the inner band. A narrow, ribbed suspension loop extends from the top on the reverse but is now damaged and bent backwards on itself. This loop is soldere…

Gold pendant. Sub-triangular, hollow, originally rectangular sectioned but now concave on both faces. The front and back plate and double ribbed suspension loop are formed from the same piece of metal sheet folded over, with a separate double ribbed repoussé sheet forming the sides, the ends of which join under the loop. Filigree decoration in the form of six closely spaced 'S' shaped scrolls not arranged symmetrically, and a length of wire following the edge of the pendant with inward curled ends near the top, is fused to the surface. Gold Anglo-Saxon pendant.
Description of find
Round, openwork, gold pendant with damaged attachment loop. The pendant is formed by a coiled length of beaded gold wire which is soldered together. The innermost coil was left plain in two sections, for decorative effect and the outermost ring has separated from the next one at some length. The loop is more abraded on the othe…

Description: An Anglo-Saxon gold cross-shaped pendant cut from a sheet of gold. One of the arms is perforated quite near the edge, most probably to allow its use as a pendant. It is of Greek form, with expanding arms of equal length, and the armpits are rounded. It is totally plain and undecorated on both sides, and slightly convex on the 'good side' (the back shows some displaced metal near the cut hole). There are some signs of wear.

Openwork gold pendant, circular and with a cross in the centre. The cross is made from a straight horizontal piece of beaded wire with a shorter vertical piece soldered onto the top and bottom. The beads are slightly flattened to front and back; both faces of the pendant are almost identical. The cross is enclosed within three concentric rings, the inner and outer of beaded wire and the central ring of plain wire. The outer ring is extremely worn and the beading can only be seen on the sides of the pendant. A corrugated loop has been added, decorated with three ridges separated by two…
