A gold lozenge shaped back plate, from a composite pendant, perhaps a reliquary pendant.
The front of the back plate has been engraved with a pictorial design. The reverse is undecorated. The upper left hand edge has a rounded edge, whereas the others are square. This is because this is the outer edge, with a ridge, which would have been used to hold onto and slide the plate out from the rest of the pendant.
The pictorial design on the back plate shows St George as an armoured soldier, holding a lance, standing over a dragon. St George is wearing an open face salet, and full…

Description: A small circular gold object, probably a pendant. The object has a backplate apparently made from a number of smaller pieces of gold, which is framed by a gold strip set on edge, 1.5mm wide, which runs around the edge to a butted join at the top. Within this is a two-ply twist of gold wires, c. 0.5mm in diameter, which forms an inner frame and also has a joint at the top. Here the twist meets three more two-ply twists which extend from the top edge of the disc vertically down into the middle. This appears to form a neck, as it ends in a raised animal head made from solder…

Description: The round pendant has a border formed by two strands of pleated wires set alongside each other, giving the impression of a gold filigree plait. Four additional plaits form arches from the border inwards and touch a fifth plait, which is framing a central setting. This is now empty but would originally have held a paste, shell or semi-precious gem. A grooved strip is attached to the top and back of the pendant, forming a suspension loop. The back is plain.
Diameter (excluding loop): 37mm; weight: 5.2g. Surface analysis indicated a gold content of approximately 70%.

Description: Gold necklace pendant inlaid with a garnet. The pendant is composed of a thin squared back-plate with rounded corners whose contours are closely followed by a frame of heavy beaded wire. This surrounds a square collet made from a strip of gold whose ends overlap beneath/below the suspension loop. The cell holds a square-cut plate garnet whose surface is slightly damaged. The garnet appears to be set over decayed silver foil. The ribbed suspension loop is poorly cut to a point to the back where it is soldered to the back plate. The front of the loop is displaced from its or…
