A modern gold pendant. The object consists of two gold discs with pressed images, replicating probably (the details have not pressed through clearly) coin obverses (i.e. the bust side only repeated to make two halves) of the emperor Maximian (AD 286-310), with a gold disc between and a beaded rim. Such mouldings in thin gold or silver foil taken from a coin 'host' are often termed clichés and were a technique known in antiquity to produce forgeries as well as a similar technique for 'bracteate' jewellery popular in Barbaricum (beyond the Roman frontier). A gold bracteate and other related E-M finds includung a fragment of a great square-headed brooch. Treasure case no. 2009 T264 Addenda to Treasure case no. 2003 T208. The seven finds in the group appear to derive from two, or perhaps three, ploughed-out graves of a 6th-century Anglo-Saxon cemetery. A complete Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) gold bracteate (c. AD 500 - c. AD 550). The bracteate consists of a gold sheet disc with a rim of beaded wire soldered to the edge at the front and a repoussé zoomorphic decoration. A separate suspension loop is formed by a ribbed strip and is soldered to the disc. The decoration consists of an interlaced animal that is typical for type D-bracteates. Round gold pendant (bracteate) with an attachment loop at the top of early Anglo-Saxon date. It is decorated with embossed Style I animal ornament. As it depicts an interlaced animal, this is a type D bracteate. A small, stylised bird is visible towards the left edge of the design. The attachment loop is decorated with three ridges at either end and the bracteate is edged with beaded wire. The proper left-hand side of the bracteate is bent backwards in two places. The attachment loop is slightly bent out of shape as well.
