It is likely that the gold has been rubbed over an object, possible a coin, that depicted the bust. Around the bust is a circle of raised dots. Next around this is a single raised, plain band outside of which is another ring of, this time larger, raised dots. The outer edge of the disc has suffered damage at the 2-5 o'clock and 8-9 o'clock positions.

An incomplete gold and garnet stud dating to the early Anglo-Saxon period. The stud is circular and consists of a base-plate of gold sheet to which has been soldered a gold collar and cloisonné cells for garnets. The collar is made from a band of twisted, beaded wire running around the outside edge of the stud, and an inner border comprising a single strand of beaded wire. Some of the beading appears worn. Inside the collar is an upright gold strip forming an outer wall for the cloisonné cell-work. This wall curves slightly inwards towards the top, to form a cabochon shape for th…

A slightly bent Early Medieval gold mount, probably part of a larger composite object. The object is flattish and sub-triangular in shape with a straight base and two concave sides. The two lower corners are pointed and the upper corner is rounded. The mount comprises a sheet of gold foil edged with fine gold beaded wire and decorated on the front with an interlacing filigree design. The central part of the design is a three-lobed knot executed in gold beaded wire. The lower corners of the triangle, beyond the end of the knot itself, are filled with gold pellets. Another strand of thi…

A Frankish gold mount set with garnets and green glass. This ornament consists of a circular gold plate with raised rim, having fixed on it, in gold mountings, a square green stone or piece of cobalt glass and three triangular and three lozenge-shaped red stones (garnets). There is no sign at the back of any pin attachment, the two projections being part of the sockets for the irregularly shaped stones. The weight is 3-80 gm. This appears to be a Frankish import, and not a native product; it is quite unrelated to the magnificent series of Jutish brooches which have been found in …

Description: Tiny gold filigree-decorated mount in the shape of a bird, now slightly crushed but apparently never of very fine workmanship. It has a flat gold backplate with a beaded-wire border running around the small crescent-shaped profile head looking left, probably intended as a that of a predatory bird; two wings, one curved and pointed but the other (under the head) just a rounded circle; and flared base, perhaps intended to represent a tail. The beaded wire of this border is about 0.7mm in diameter and is very worn, rubbed flat in places and scraped in others; it is missing e…

An incomplete gold mount, possibly of medieval date (AD 1350-1550). The mount is a slightly convex sexfoil in the form of a flower with six petals and circular recessed centre. Each of the "petals" has a hammered pellet at each side and a central incised linear decoration which creates the impression of foliage .The reverse of the mount is slightly concave with a recessed aspect centrally which is the result of a broken projection/spur which would have been used to affix the mount to clothing. A similar example is illustrated in Egan, Dress Accessories, 2002, P 243, no 1297.
