An Iron Age uninscribed Gallo-Belgic gold stater of the Ambiani, 'Gallic War Uniface' type dating c.60-50 BC. Cf.  ABC no: 16; VA 50-56. Mack 27. Obverse: plain. Reverse: sinuous horse, right. The flan is misshapen and roughly oval. The obverse is raised from where the die struck the reverse. Measurements: diameter: 24.08mm, weight. 6.07g.

The coin is a 'Gallo-Belgic C' gold stater, produced during the late Iron Age, between about 100/80 BC and 60 BC. The name 'Gallo-Belgic' stems from the fact that although these coins are found in substantial numbers in south-east England, they are also found on the continent where they are thought to have been produced. The coin satisfies the terms of the Treasure Act with regard to age and metal content.
