A Medieval gold coin; a noble of Edward III (AD 1327 - 1377), Pre-Treaty coinage, probably Series G dating from AD 1356 - 1361. London mint. See North (1991) number 1179 - 1183 on page 52. The initial mark is not very clear, but it does not appear to be a cross, but just an upright. The coin was bent when it was found, as illustrated. The conservator who straightened the coin suggested that the bending was probably plough damage, but coins in the Medieval period are known to have been deliberately bent too. It has a diameter of 33mm and weighs 7.6g.

A gold quarter noble of Edward III (AD 1327 - 1377), Pre-Treaty period (AD 1351 - 1361), a mule with obverse as Series B (North number 1141) with cross 1 initial mark and a pellet below the shield, and reverse probably as Series E (North number 1162) though the initial cross looks more like cross 3 (Series G). There is a spelling error in the reverse legend which reads: EXALTABITVR annulet IN GNLORIA. The erroneous letter is not clear and may be a backwards F (et). Another example with a similar spelling mistake is SF-CB2C57. The coin is 19.9mm diameter, 0.53mm thick and 1.87g. There …

A gold hammered coin dating from the Medieval period: a quarter noble of Edward III (1327-1377) struck at London, 1363-1369. Treaty Period, Treaty Series, Cross potent initial mark, North 1243. The coin has a diameter 20.84mm, and weighs 1.88g. Images show a distinct crease across the centre of the coin, suggesting that it has been neatly and deliberately folded in two, perhaps as a 'pilgrim token': see the discussion in the record SWYOR-EE887F https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/974550 The coin has subsequently been straightened.
