A very worn and damaged gold quarter noble of Edward III. Approximately one third of the flan is missing along with the corresponding legend. The coin is no longer flat and has a distinctive curvature. This is a Pre-treaty version dating to 1351-61, fourth coinage. (Spink 1495)

Obverse depicts the king standing facing forward in a ship, crowned and armoured, he holds a sword in right hand and a shield of England and France in left hand. The reverse depicts a floriated cross with a fleur-de-lys at the end of each arm and an ornamented compartment containing a closed E in centre of cross.
