18th to 19th Century Mourning Jewellery: clasp from a bracelet or necklace. It is an elongated octagon in plan, with cut glass above a gold-wire monogram, MW, surrounded by a border of scrolled gold-wire. One terminal has three circular fittings to attach the string, while the other end has a narrow, rectangular slot with a small notch at the centre; for where the folded metal plate would have been inserted to secure the fastening. A complete struck gold aureus of Nero (AD54-AD68). Minted in Rome circa AD64-AD65. The legend on the obverse, "NERO CAESA[R]", continues with, "AVGVSTVS GERMANICVS" on the reverse. With a radiate figure of Nero with branch and Victory on globe on the reverse, Sutherland suggests that the legend refers to the signal success of Corbulo in Armenia in AD 63 (RIC I, p145.) Diameter: 20.0mm. Mass: 6.80g. Coin reference: RIC I, 46. The aureus is very worn.

An uninscribed North Eastern gold 'domino' type stater of the Corieltavi, dating from 50 BC to AD 10. On the obverse is a vestigial head of Apollo, facing right right, struck from a worn die. On the reverse is a disjointed horse, facing left, with a rectangular cartouche containing a line of four pellets above, and a four armed spiral below. It is 18.5 mm diameter and 2.5mm thick. Modern cast gold finger ring. The band is D-shaped in cross section and has external decoration only. The external decoration consists of a thin border either side of a raised central band formed of alternating raised sqaures, aligned in three rows, covering the whole diameter. The measures 18.5mm in diameter, 1.18mm thick and weighs 1.05g. There are no parallels in the British Museum collection, and the construction of the ring does not appear to be over 300 years old. As such, the ring does not need to be reported under the stipulations of the Treasure Act (1996).
