A fragment of a Roman sheet gold leaf ornament, dating to c. AD 300-400. The object comprises a single thin sheet of gold cut into the form of a leaf with a midrib and the remains of six pairs of radiating veins. The veins are also incised though on alternating sides with the first pair being on the same side as the rib, the second pair on the opposite side, and so on. The gold sheet has been torn at the base, probably due to an old break. The gold sheet has been folded back on itself from the base on one side of the reverse. A Post-Medieval gold stamp in the form of a stud. The stud is decorated on the front with an engraved six petal rose, at the centre of which a capital ‘H’ in Roman script.
