Complete gold 18th century mourning ring. The ring is 'D' shaped in cross section. The outer face is decorated with an inlayed floral and foliate niello design. The inner face is undecorated apart from the inscription 'T Job 8 Aug 1729'. A number of mourning rings of a similar date can be seen in Oman (1974) on pl.87-8. Although these are generally more elaborately decorated than this example, a large percentage do include very similar leafwork designs on their exterior and inscriptions of a similar arrangement (i.e. name of deceased, followed by date of death). Red-tinged Gold Finger Ring, with apparently hollow hoop of flattened oval section, mounting a rectangular cushion-shaped bezel for a stone (now lost). The upper sides of bezel are decorated with incised vertical billeting below a horizontal border; curvilinear decoration is also inscribed at the shoulders of the hoop. Ring is now slightly distorted. The thin hoop and rectangular bezel may suggest a 17th or 18th-century date (Oman 1930, plate XVI). The ring has been notified as potential Treasure (2010 T32).
