An object composed of three gold strips of different widths and thicknesses which have been wrapped together into a sub-rounded cuboidal bundle measuring 16.7mm by 16.2mm by 11.4mm and weighing 9.64g. Two strips are wrapped around the inner coils of a third, longer and thinner strip which wraps around the outside. A fragment of gold jewellery, probably of Roman date. c.1st to 3rd century AD. Description: The fragment consists of a loop of filigree, circular in section, that is now broken at one end. The surviving part forms a straight section that terminates in an ovoid loop. This straight section is decorated with granulation, in the form of two pairs of spheres at each end and five in the centre. A near complete, gold finger ring dating to the Late Roman Period c. AD 300-410. Description: Gold finger-ring, much distorted. The hoop consists of a rectangular sectioned strip of gold, to which has been soldered three strand of filigree which is now broken in a number of places. The filigree is beaded, but the beads are now very hard to distinguish, which is probably due to heavy wear. A ring made of circular-sectioned gold wire, with three evenly-spaced wire coils wrapped around it. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analyses undertaken at the British Museum performed on the surface of the ring and one of the wire coils indicated a surface composition of approximately 98–99.5% gold, with small amounts of other metals.
