Gold posy ring, inscribed 'remember mee'. There are traces of black enamel left in the inscription. It is a very charming piece being so small in size, but as it is otherwise plain and bears no assay marks, it is very difficult to date with any accuracy. There is certainly no evidence to date it pre-1700, and it is most likely to be 18th century. It does not therefore fall within the Treasure remit.

Near complete gold mourning finger ring of Post-Medieval date. The ring is distorted but is otherwise in good condition. The hoop comprises of four S-shaped barbed scrolls carrying an inscription on the exterior. The first S-scroll is shorter than the others and simply carries the letter W. The next S-scroll has: HARRISON, followed by: OB2SEPT, and finally: 1761AE69. Indicating the finger ring was to commemorate W. Harrison, who died on the 2nd September 1761, aged 69. The ring would have been commissioned and worn by the deceased’s spouse or child. The S-scrolls are now plain, but…

Incomplete gold finger-ring, set with a colourless stone. The hoop is narrow and broken into two parts, with about a quarter missing. It is D-shaped in cross-section, flaring from a minimum of 1.2 mm wide and 1.4 mm thick to a maximum of 1.8 mm wide and 2 mm thick at the junction with the bezel. Although this would seem to leave little room for decoration on the shoulders, there is in fact a great deal of complicated scrolly engraving extending around half the hoop and ending with a short longitudinal groove. The bezel is 8.5 mm square, and tapers to a point underneath with a finely…

Gold posy ring. A plain exterior, inscribed inside: 'Liue in loue and feare the lord' with the initials C above W M, standing for a husband and wife or betrothed couple whose surname began with C. This ring bears a maker's mark WH, or possibly HM. It has not been possible to identify the maker's mark. This inscription, and also the fashion for placing the initials in a triangle, continued well into the 18th century. There is therefore not enough evidence to confirm that this ring is pre-1706 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.

Plain gold D-sectioned finger-ring, with posy inscription around inner face: NOT*THIS*but*me π to.chos[e]* The symbol between 'me' and 'to chose' is likely to be the worn letters 'it'. This ring is unusual in having both capital and lower case lettering employed in the inscription. The combination of upper and lower case lettering indicates a 17th-century date rather than 16th. The N is reverse barred. The lettering is unevenly engraved and spaced, the last word truncated by the insertion of a fillet, either a repair or hoop enlargement.
