The 'D' sectioned hoop is somewhat slender and has been (deliberately?) broken at its base, the two ends subsequently folded in on each other. Gold roman finger ring that has a triple oval bezel consisting of a large central oval box setting that has beaded wire running around its base and large pellet soldered onto the outside edge of each corner. A distorted sub-oval gold wire ring with an integral loop at one end flanked by small coils of fine gold wire, one damaged. Probably an ear-ring. Date: probably Roman, 1st - 4th century AD. Dimensions: length 31.3 mm; width 14.6 mm; thickness of wire 1.5 mm. Weight: 2.58 g. Non-destructive surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated a gold content of 87-90% and silver content of 9-11%. In age and precious metal content the object qualifies as Treasure under the terms of the 1996 Treasure Act.

Circumstances of Find The coins were found on 12/11/2017 by metal detecting on cultivated land. The coins were found close together. No pottery or other material relating to a container was discovered. A scatter of Roman coins are known from the parish but no other Roman material has been reported to the PAS from this field. There is a note on the Somerset HER (ref: 43281) based on an OS record card of 1965 that: 'A gold follis of Valens, in mint condition, was found when ploughing. Late 4th – early 5th century AD gold finger ring with spiral filigree decoration. The hoop is a thin band of gold sheet, bordered on each side by twisted wire. The shoulders have neat, elaborate spirals in gold wire with central gold globules, some now missing on one side and some unsupported by the backing. Surrounding the empty rectangular bezel is a roped flange. See Thetford treasure ring 10 for filigree design. max. width of hoop 4.1mm; internal 17.5g x 17.6mm; bezel (rectangular) 11.5mm x 13.2mm.

Gold finger ring with green gemstone. The hoop consists of three conjoined pieces of gold wire, two plain and one beaded, the former each forming a swirl around a gold globule at the shoulder of the bezel (one now missing). The bezel is a raised rectangular box setting and is surrounded by a linear decorated flange. The green gemstone contained within the bezel is slightly out of true and the ring hoop is slightly bent. max. width of hoop 2.2mm; internal 16.3mm x 14.4mm; bezel (rectangular) 13.2mm x 10.9mm.
