TREASURE CASE 2016 T921. A complete gold ring of probably post-medieval to modern date. The shape of this object suggests that this is more likely to be a decorative mount or fitting of some kind rather than a finger-ring, as it does not have the D-shaped cross section usually seen with finger rings. The ring is formed from a strip of gold and has central circumferential beading between teo raised ribs which run around the upper and lower outer edge of the ring. There is no internal markings or inscription. This object may be a decorative fitting for a knife or a walking cane (for exa…

Treasure reference 2018 T380: gold ingot. A thin [c.0.8mm] strip of beaten gold, neatly folded four times to produce a small rectangular billet. The beating of precious metal into ingot forms is particularly associated with the Vikings, and in the context of the Torksey area, with an attested encampment and numerous associated finds, an ascription to that period seems credible. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 850-1050. Length: 10.8mm, Width: 7.4mm, Thickness: 3.2mm, Weight: 1.00gms

A complete medieval gold finger ring, AD.1200-1450. The ring consists of a simple gold band made from oval section gold wire, this joins a central bezel with a shoulder ridge upon either side. The band has been distorted post deposition but is otherwise complete. The bezel is set with a single teardrop shaped red stone, possibly a garnet. The setting stands above the band, flaring outwards slightly. It matches the stone in shape and so the setting is also teardrop shaped. The surviving terminal is oval in cross-section and exhibits evidence of hammering at the tip. Four longitudinal cuts have been made into the bar to create an X-shaped cross-section and the bar has then been twisted. The piece curves along its length and terminates in a break.
