Short length of rod originally of circular section of about 5 mm diameter. Both ends have been hammered, cut and finally torn. The hammer facets taper back and almost meet in the middle. The thinned blunter ends have steep 'cut' facets and are partly rough-fractured. The undamaged parts of the sides have slight longitudinal facets and fine striations from the original finishing. Such a small and undiagnostic fragment cannot be identified definitively. Gold posy ring of probable mid 17th century date. Plain gold band measuring 20.2mm internal diameter, by 5.9mm high and 1.3mm thick. Outer edge is bevelled. Inside contains the inscription: "God gives increase to love and peace" (in Old English Script). There is one mark, situated just in front of the script, which is a capital "H" within a shield with a zig-zag top edge (see photos). The letter is probably a date stamp. Post Medieval gold finger ring dated 1708. The finger ring is a mourning ring and contains significant traces of black enamel set around an intricate floral motif. The hoop is of a low D-shaped section. The interior of the band is inscribed with: DC 12 May 1708 The inscription is followed by a maker’s mark consisting of ‘IG’ over ‘S’ within a heart shaped punch; followed by ‘C’ within a punched circle.
