Fragment of thin gold sheet or foil, from an object of indeterminate use and date. The artefact comprises a flat, roughly D-shaped sheet, with a single neat straight edge. A crease follows the line of the straight edge about 2-3mm from it, forming a slight groove or ridge along the edge. The rest of the object has hammer marks, probably from being beaten into its flat sheet form.
Although the straight edge appears to have been neatly cut (or scored and folded until it broke), it is not clear if the straight edge is part of the form of the …

A Roman gold finger ring with intalgio, dating to c.AD 150 - 250. The ring is of Henig type V. The ring is oval in plan and D-shaped in section. The bezel is wider than the hoop with sloping shoulders. The bezel is 12.1 mm wide, at its narrowest (to the rear) the band is 3.9 mm. The band of the ring is undecorated, though small hammer marks are visible towards the narrow hoop of the ring. The bezel has retained a blue oval shaped intalgio, made from nicolo (onyx). Depicted on the intaglio is a hippocampus/seahorse facing left.

Description: A warped but otherwise complete case gold medieval stirrup shaped finger-ring with green stone setting intact.
The finger ring that has a narrow and thin D-shaped cross-section hoop that is now oval in plan due to it being squashed along the lateral axis. It would have originally been circular. The hoop expands in thickness towards it top edge to form a tall pointed bezel (2.6mm wide and 30mm tall) with gentle sloping shoulders. At the point of the bezel is mounted a green glass or stone that is c.2.1mm in diameter.

Description: Small gold annular brooch with pin constriction and projecting clasped hands. The circular frame is mainly triangular in cross-section, but this is interrupted by the pin constriction at 12 o'clock, the clasped hands at 3 o'clock, and two quatrefoil flower bosses at 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock. The pin constriction has a tiny transverse ridge to either side.
