A fragment of gold, likely hack gold from a penannular bracelet of Bronze Age date, possibly c.1100-850 BC. Description: The object is broadly 'axe-shaped' with a sub-circular terminal that tapers to a flat rectangular cross section. This was likely achieved by cutting and hammering. The tapered end has been cut, indicated by a bright rugged cut. Fragment of a gold ingot, rectangular in plan and rhomboidal in profile, and plano-convex in section. The ingot has been cast and then forged or hammered on two sides. The porosity seen in section at one end is created by the casting and then the ingot has been hit once it was cooled and this end section has cracked away. The opposite end has been sheared off with a blunt 'cold' chisel which has caused the end to expand slightly. An ingot of probable gold and silver. It is broken, at the break is a 'nick' which extends into the ingot for approx. 2mm and then the break occurs under this. The other end, which is an original terminal, is slightly bulbous. It is a pale gold colour and may be an alloy rather then a pure metal. Some flow marks are apparent as a result of casting, and the surfaces are all pitted, reminiscent of being cast in sand. A small ingot of gold of Unknown date. The ingot is sub-rectangular in cross-section, tapering and faceted. Rounded at each end. 7-8 small cut marks on one edge at the narrower end. Length 20.5mm, Width 6.4mm, Thickness 4.7mm. Weight 4.81g. Treasure case no. 2006 T402 (determined not to be Treasure). It is not possible to give a date to this ingot. It may or may not be more than 300 years old, therefore, due to the undiagnostic nature of the find, it can not be securely dated to pre-1706 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.

This shape of ingot is not completely diagnostic, but it is typical of one of the forms known to be common in Viking hoards and as site finds of the late 9th and early 10th centuries.
