A thin, plain, gold Post Medieval finger ring dating circa AD 1724 - 2000.  The ring is severely bent and mis-shapen, becoming sub-anular in plan, U-shaped in profile and D-shaped in cross-section. The surface of the ring is a uniform and even gold colour, with no decoration present. There is a surface break visible near one of the bend points. Measurements: Length: 16.3mm Width: 11.4mm Thickness of band: 1.4mm Weight: 0.6g Due to the undecorated nature of this band, it is challenging to date this ring with any certainty. Bands of a similar style have be…

A modern gold finger ring with stone setting and enamel detail circa AD 1830-1900.  The finger ring has a rectangular bezel with a possible rock crystal or stone with a baguette cut. The stone sits within a gold bezel with enamel detail on all four sides. The long edges of the bezel have a semi-circular dark blue enamel inlay. One side has within it, two gold coloured annulets. The opposing edge has one gold an…

Description: A complete gold finger ring, of 19th century date. The hoop of the ring has a twisted rope design around the entire diameter on its exterior face. The inside face of the hoop is plain, with no hallmarks. This design transitions directly into the bezel of the ring, which is a lozenge shape, into which a red stone is set into a quatrefoil opening. The bezel is a box design with chamfered edges. There is an apparent ‘lid’ for the box bezel, and it is possible that a keepsake is contained within the bezel itself. Dimensions:  Hoop diameter 22.28mm Weight: 5…

A Modern gold finger ring probably dating from AD 1800 - 1950, and thus too young to be declared as treasure under the 1997 Treasure Act. The ring has a flat hoop of rectangular cross-section. It widens and thickens at the bezel area. A separate elliptical decorated panel appears to have been attached to the outer face of the hoop to form the bezel. The panel has a raised rim surrounding a deeply recessed area, which is decorated with flat topped pellets af varying sizes, bordered by spiral filigree wires. The ring is 21.2mm in diameter, 6.6mm wide and weighs 5.48g. An 18th century - 19th century gold finger ring, worked into an continuous double loop, resembling a closed S. The face of the ring displays a double-looped effect, formed from a single gold band which has been bent and flattened during the production to form a continuous, curved feature. The band's surface is undecorated. The style of the ring contains an element of Rococo influence (post 1730s), namely its flowing curves and undulations which were popular design elements of that period. The deliberate 'looping' of bands has remained a popular effect howeve…

A complete mishapen thin gold finger ring, no hall marks or other decoration. Dimensions: Hoop width: 1.3 mm Hoop thickness: 0.7 mm Length: 21.0 mm Width: 16.1 mm Weight: 0.5 g. Discussion: The object is similar in style to LVPL-F848BA, WMID-E6F361, WMID-E6E061 and ESS-F1E6C3. In those cases because the finger ring has no features that would enable a secure date, there is not enough evidence to date this ring to pre-1722. Conclusion: Therefore, owing to its similarity to other rings recorded on the PAS database and the information provided by Judy Rudoe the …

A gold finger-ring of modern date. This artefact weighs 0.85g, has a circular hoop of 16.9mm external diameter. The band that forms the hoop has a width of 2.6mm, thickness of 1.30mm and a 'D' shaped cross-section. The internal surface of the hoop appears to be undecorated. There is one mark but this is probably fortuitously present, or possibly the result of slight damage or the only trace of a well disguised join in the band to form the continuous hoop. The convexly curved external surface is moulded or shaped to have a decorative pattern suggesting a wide rope twist. If ho…

Incomplete post-Medieval gold posy ring with significant damage, now in the form of a strip rather than hoop of metal. The band is of shallow d-shaped profile. The ring appears to have been cut at the point of commencement of the inscription, which is subsequently intact. This reads – in Italic script – Let loue. Last (where the L of let takes an extended form and last is written with a long or medial s). There is no mark, and no other obviously diagnostic evidence. Discussion: The text ‘Let love last’ has not yet been found, but several examples of the sentiment

A complete but damaged gold finger ring. The band has a lentoid cross section, damaged on all sides. The ring has a black mineral coating, with a crazed appearance. The metal appears frosted as a result of an uneven surface. The band measures 5.63mm at its widest part and has an external diameter of 21.65mm and an internal diameter of 16.64mm. While the surface texture and dark coating seem incongruent with gold, the metal shows true where recent damage has occurred. A Nitric Acid test indicates gold.
