Treasure Number: 2016 T176 Period: Undiagnostic Description: Gold finger-ring. Dimensions: Diameter: 15mm - 24mm Width: 5mn Discussion: The ring was analysed by several specialists at the British Museum and it was found to be too undiagnostic. Chronologically it could not be attributed to the Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman, Early Medieval, Medieval or Post-Medieval periods. Conclusion: Due to the undiagnostic nature of the find it cannot be securely dated to pre-1716 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.

Treasure Case 2012 T338: Gold Droplet from Brailes, Warwickshire. Casting waste, comprising a complete amorphous droplet of gold or gold alloy. The droplet measures 14.77mm long, 8.37mm wide and 6.71mm thick, weighing 5.1g. Iron Age coins have been recovered from the same farm (Treasure Case 2012 T726), and it has been suggested that gold such as this may have been connected with Iron Age gold working, such as coin production or recycling. However, a similar piece (2004 T408) was determined to be undiagnostic and undatable following metal analysis.

REPORT FOR HM CORONER Treasure case 2006 T521: Kingsbury, Warks. Five small irregular gold lumps of indeterminate age or function. Total weight 33.77g Non-destructive surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated that the gold content is approximately 99%. In view of the undiagnostic nature of the lumps it is my opinion that they cannot be demonstrated to be Treasure under the terms of the 1996 Treasure Act. Maureen Mellor and John Cherry have examined it. In their opinion the precious metal content of the find does not fulfil the requirements of the Treasure Act, and it therefore falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
