A cast gold and garnet pyramidal mount from the early medieval period. The mount has four triangular faces and a flat top. Each face is decorated with a simple cloisonné design comprising a triangular cell above a rectangular to sub-trapezoidal cell, most of which are inlaid with flat-cut garnets. The bezel is oval, the upper half forming a collet with concave sides, open at the top to house a missing gem or other setting. The mouth is now damaged and bent out of shape. The lower face is divided from the upper by a circumferential ridge and has tapering sides and a flat bottom. A complete early medieval gold terminal mount traditionally referred to as an 'aestel' (see Discussion). The mount is in the form of an animal's head, constructed from a sub-rectangular sheet of gold to which has been soldered a separate gold sheet back-plate, leaving a hollow void inside. At one end is a short, tubular socket which has been pierced through with a circular rivet-hole (now empty), torn open on the base-plate. Medieval gold finger ring. The band is flat internally, with nine angled concave mouldings separated by segmented ribs externally. Each moulding is engraved with a floral spray consisting of either a pointed flower head on a stem with two pairs of leaves or a five petalled flower above a single pair of leaves, both types with a transverse line with radiating lines below at the base indicating the ground.
