Description: Piece of gold rod, probably a small fragment of a flange-twisted or bar-twisted torc with three flanges, now bent into a spiral of two full turns. One end is original, with a rounded tip and neat triangular cross-section. From the rounded tip, the terminal flares slightly for c. 10mm and runs straight, before starting to coil. As it starts to curve, each face becomes concave so that the cross-section is Y-shaped, and the rod is then neatly twisted as well as bent into a coil. After two full turns the rod is apparently cut or broken. It is…

Description: Penannular circular ring of late Bronze Age date, apparently made of gold throughout. The ring is almost circular in cross-section, with a flat facet around the interior. The ends are cleanly made across the thickness, forming a straight narrow gap 1.8mm wide at most. The ends are neat and flat, but cracked slightly implying that the gold may be a thick plating over a core of different material. The ring flares slightly in thickness, from 4.2mm wide and 4.8mm thick at the ends to 4.6mm wide and 5.1mm thick in the centre. The gold is an even co…

Description: Rectangular piece of gold sheet with repoussé and punched decoration, of early to middle Bronze Age date. The decoration consists of three longitudinal panels, each one made from a pair of relief lines or creases with  corresponding grooves on the reverse, so either pushed out from the reverse (the repoussé technique) or hammered over a shaped former or patrix. The effect is to give the two undecorated strips a slightly raised feel. Each of the three decorated panels is filled with two longitudinal rows of pun…

Description: Penannular ring of probable Bronze Age date, probably from a composite (multiple strand) ring. It is C-shaped in cross-section, with a convex outer and a concave interior. The width of the ring is very consistent but the two ends do not sit quite in line, as if the ring has been slightly bent out of shape. There is a c. 1.5mm gap between the two ends, one of which is slightly incurved and the other slightly outcurved, as if they once joined. The top and bottom edges are neat and parallel, but one is more highly polished than the other, which has a narrow roughened str…

Description: Incomplete fragment from a gold Middle Bronze Age flange twisted torc comprising one terminal and a length of twisted metal, terminating in a break. The surviving terminal is oval in cross-section and exhibits evidence of hammering at the tip. Four longitudinal cuts have been made into the bar to create an X-shaped cross-section and the bar has then been twisted. The piece curves along its length and terminates in a break. Neither terminal looks broken - thus object is complete. Ribbon is extremely tangled, but it would seem that intermediate narrowing is roughly central. The 'bar' thus created is currently tightly curved but may not have originally been so. Terminal 2 has flat section leading straight out of ribbon; no.1 is more rectangular and involves a half twist, its faces having sprung from the sides of the ribbon! No real sign of original twisting of ribbon - despite the extensive buckling there seems to be no 'extra-length' along the edges relative to the centre-line. Probably a bracelet, given …
